The Ombudsman has launched an investigation into the issue of termination of financing of maternity care hospital in Maralik.

In particular, the Human Rights Defender’s office received information that today residents of the town of Maralik and neighboring villages are protesting against the closure of the maternity ward, by blocking the Maralik section of the Gyumri-Yerevan highway.
Complaints have been studied; including that closure of the maternity ward would make access to health care more difficult.
The Ombudsman discussed the issue in the morning with the Minister of Health and the Governor of Shirak.
Given the complaints of residents, a written inquiry was sent to the Ministry of Health.
Earlier it was decided to close the Maralik maternity hospital because the number of births of babies was too small.
