The Information Checking Center has issued a statement which reads:

“The performance near the Republic Square Metro Station in Yerevan has raised a great wave of public debate. Some citizens liked it, others did not. The question, however, is aesthetic. ՛Tastes differ’ the proverb says.”

Parallel to the event and the scuffle ensued, a number of media outlets and Facebook users began to spread information that the staged was an LGBT campaign or a state-funded satanic event.

The Information Checking Center  informs that the “AJZ Space” NGO applied to the Ministry of Transport and Communication and received about 2.7 million AMD for staging the performance. The contract signed with the ministry clearly stipulated the details of the staging, which stipulate the staging of contemporary poetry reading.

As we can see from the contract signed with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the play should be a reading of 1920s poetry (Yeghishe Charents, Azat Vshtuni, Gevorg Abov, etc.). The poems of these authors were to be heard in a contemporary style and with the accompaniment of dance.

Thus, we report that the information that the Ministry of Social Affairs is sponsoring LGBT or Satanist propaganda is not true. Such speculations pursue clear political motives and are intended to mislead the public.”
