November 2 is the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
One of the main directions of the work of the Human Rights Defender is to guarantee respect for journalism profession and to ensure professional unobstructed work.
Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan made a statement on this.
“Freedom of speech and journalistic activities is one of the key indicators of democratic development in the country.
With your responsibility to just journalism and daily hard work, you promote democracy in the country. It is mainly thanks to your job that the citizen receives an idea on the work of public authorities and officials representing those authorities. And in this way civilian control over the state is ensured.
The role of a journalist is also great in promoting pluralism and the atmosphere of solidarity in the country. These are important pledges to overcome the challenges facing the country with honor and ensure smooth transitions.
Any encroachment on the journalist’s professional work must be severely criticized by the state, and the offender must be subjected to unavoidable penalties.
The journalist himself must be convinced that his professional work is protected by the state.
With the Ombudsman’s full potential; I will continue to exert efforts to promote protected journalistic work.”
