According to the sectoral experts Environmental education should be carried out in Armenia, Moreover, it should be implemented at all levels, from kindergartens to universities.
However, these are not all problems in the environmental sector yet. The mining sector, which has a negative impact on public health, is a key area as well.
Here the public has to establish a dialogue with government as well as with the private sector, in this case with the mining companies to solve problems.
At present, there is no clear policy on environment in Armenia. In other words, what is the mission, from which other processes stem? The experts meant just that.
The issue of assessment of the impact on the environment and human health, which exists in the mining sector, is no less important. “We shall have the problem, unless this methodology and standards are not introduced in our country. Naturally, we cannot solve problems unless we know how the object, project or policy impacts on human health,” the experts said.
In order to form a joint approach for resolving this and other projects a meeting of the focus group of Environmental Education Network took place today.
The meeting was organized in the scope of “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project. Mr. Alexander Shagafyan, President of the “Armenian CIVITAS” NGO, facilitated the meeting. He presented the objectives of the project and the process of its implementation.
The “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union by the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO in cooperation with its partners; Agora Central Europe o.p.s (an NGO from the Czech Republic), Armenian Center for Democratic Education-CIVITAS, “International Center for Human Development” Public Organization, SME Cooperation Association and Union of Communities of Armenia.
