The U.S. Embassy in Armenia continues to follow the events and ongoing demonstrations in the Erebuni Police area. We reconfirm our call upon all parties to show maximum restraint, act within the law and give a peaceful resolution to the situation. We are deeply concerned with the ongoing situation as regards the hostages and we call on the immediate, safe, and unconditional release of the medical workers kept hostage since Wednesday and all those who wish to leave the Erebuni Police area.
We reiterate that threats and violence are not acceptable means of reaching lasting political changes in Armenia. We urge the RA Government and authorities to maintain the order in such a manner that would ensure protection of ALL RA citizens’ rights to free speech and to peaceful assembly, in addition to providing guarantees that all individuals detained by the Police will be treated justly, and ensuring proper legal processes as prescribed by law.
