The Child shall not appear in the Care Center as a Result of Poverty

“One of the landmarks of the UN is that the child shall not appear in the Care Center as a result of poverty,” Artem Sargsyan, the RA Minister of Labor and Social Issues said today at the presentation of the EU-UNICEF Child Rights Toolkit in Armenia. In his speech the minister said that a number of legal documents have been elaborated and work is carried out to ensure that the children shall not stay out of the families and to strengthen the families.

The RA Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan, also stressed the importance of the protection of the child’s rights and the elaborated toolkit. She said that the Draft Law on Amendments I n the RA Family Code has already been completed, and which attaches essential importance to the protection of the child’s rights.

“Whether desired or not every policy or reform program has a positive or negative impact on children’s lives. Through this toolkit and expert training we aim to support the development of the Armenian experts involved in these activities in their everyday work, so that they are able to take informed and strategic decisions, which will lead to positive outcomes for children, and especially in the lives of the most vulnerable ones,” Ms Tanja Radochay, UNICEF Representative in Armenia said.

Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Antoni Switalski speaking about the Child Rights Toolkit said, “This toolkit is about the simple things; how to ensure the child’s medical care, how to protect from hunger, and how to ensure quality food, how to reduce violence in the family and houses, how to protect the children from sexual exploitation, how to prepare them for the new life and ensure good education for them, how to promote the development of creative thinking, how to help them find, discover and peruse their aspirations etc.”

It is due to notice that today the European Union, UNICEF and the German Development Cooperation organized the presentation of the joint EU-UNICEF Child Rights Toolkit in Armenia. After the presentation the two-days training on Integrating Child Right in Developing Cooperation and a child rights training was launched. The training is designed for the representatives of the Government, civil society, donor organizations and private sector.

The presentation of the Toolkit comes after last year’s adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which once and again emphasizes the key role of children and young people in the achievement of the Sustainable development Goals. Since 2014 the EU and UNISEF have presented the Toolkit in more than 40 countries.

The training builds on the joint EU-UNICEF Child Rights Toolkit: Integrating Child Rights in developing Cooperation and child rights training developed by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and development (BMZ) will enable the participants to elaborate approaches based on the issues of the children’s and youth interests.
