The regular training of trainers in the framework of the “Influencing the Women’s Rights Agenda” project implemented by the Armenian Young Lawyers Association NGO with financial support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Armenia was held in Vanadzor City on 26 June 2015. The participants were presented the themes covering the topics of “Women’s Rights in the Context of Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance”, “Labor Rights of Women, including the Right to Equal Payment and Maternity Benefits and Employment Discrimination.”
The participants emphasized the need for training material and mentioned that in practice there are frequent occurrences of divorce that involve property disputes and which often end to the detriment of the women. According to the participants the reason for the disadvantageous solutions for the women is the lack of the knowledge of their right, as well as unequal possibilities to struggle for their rights as compared with those of the men. The participants also mentioned that before this training they did not have correct understanding about the volume of property rights for the property acquired during the marriage, as well as did not perceive the real meaning of signing a marriage contract.
After completing the course, participants must conduct awareness seminars in educational institutions and communities.
