“The audit of ENA will assist to know to what extend the increase of electricity tariffs is justified and what threats could arise if the tariffs were not raised,” said Davit Harutyunyan, Minister Chief of Staff of the RA Government in the interview with “Armenia” TV. At the same time stressing the importance of choice of the company carrying out an audit, which will to assure the public confidence and be one of the world’s top ten companies. According to the minister, it is necessary to ensure consultation with the political opposition and civil society activists, in order to select a company from the list compiled as a result of the announced tender, which will conduct the audit.
The audit will take from 3 to 6 months. Answering the question that even in case of subsidizing the electricity tariff by the government prior to the completion of the audit, all the same it will be covered on the expense of the funds collected from the taxpayers, Davit Harutyunyan said that in case when it appears that the price increase is not justified, the government shall charge these funds from the distribution networks.
