Today a protest action was held in front of the RA Prosecutor general’s Office. The action was not very crowded, on;y three protestors participated. They demanded to surrender the Russian soldier Valeri Permyakov who was accused of killing 7 members of a family in Gyumri on 12 January, to the Law Authorities of the RA.
Vaghinak Shushanyan, member of “Mianum em” (I Join) civil initiative said that the primary request of their organization was to surrender Permyakov to the Armenian side and to conduct the investigation and trial by the Armenian Law Authorities. “At least we shall have the court decision and the major part of the public will be confident that the Armenian side conducts the trail of the offence which was performed in Armenia. Indeed, even if the people have little faith in the judicial system of Armenia, however, it is desirable that the investigation is carried out here and not in the Russian Military Base, and we are not aware of anything but the fact that he was thirsty and wanted to ask for some water,” said the activist.
In the interview to iravaban.net he spoke about the little number of the participants of protest action. He insisted that it was the result of the atmosphere of fear, “Upon the completion of any action if not one but some of the activists are brought to the police or some activists are being beaten, and this is why the people do not come,” said the participant of the action and added that if they were more then they could have made their demand heard to the Prosecutor General.
During the protest action, Vardges Gaspary, one of the activists lay down on the pavement across the street in front of the Prosecutor’s Office expressing his discontent. He had a poster in his hands with the words, “The Tragedy in Gyumri does not refer to Avetisyans and Gyumri only…”
