Today the citizens protesting against the draft law on “Amending the RA Law on Temporary Unemployment Benefits” gathered in front of the National Assembly. In parallel to this, parliamentary hearings on this legislative package were taking place in the National Assembly.
Let us remind that in case the draft law is adopted, the antenatal and postpartum compensation sum of employed women will decrease and a maximum threshold will be put for maternity benefits. The participants of the protest action claim that by the government undertaking several articles of the RA Constitution and certain international norms are violated.
The members of the initiative are sure that the draft law violates the rights of employed women, they also claim that the amendments can bring to fertility reduction and promote emigration.
Protesting citizens informed that they welcomed the idea of providing maternity benefits to unemployed women, but these amendments should not be carried out at the expense of employed women.
