According to reports from the residents of the villages around the scene of the incident, the helicopter carrying the President crashed in the Dizmar forest between the villages of Uzi and Pir Daoud, an IRNA correspondent reported. Residents of this region, which is located in the north of Varzegan, East Azerbaijan Province, told IRNA that they heard a sound in that area an hour ago.
More than 20 rescue teams with drones and rescue dogs have been sent to the area, and the Rangers and special forces of Iran’s armed forces are also in the area to assist in the search.
The helicopter carrying Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was destroyed due to a hard landing in the region of Eastern Azerbaijan.
Rescuers are trying to reach the plane. The situation is complicated by thick fog and terrain.
