The Azerbaijani asked why the car was empty: The story of Alisa from Artsakh

“On the day of the war, we woke up as usual to go to classes, and on that day we returned home from classes, we were supposed to participate in an event, but I didn’t feel well and decided to come home. During the siege, we coordinated with the schedule of electricity: when to cook, when to go home. When I came home, the electricity had just been turned on, I decided that I had to cook dinner so that the children would come home from classes and eat.

My mother called, we talked as usual, she said, “Do you know, dear Alisa, the war will start today, take your passport, take your important documents and be ready to go to the basement if you can,” Alisa Aghasyan, who was forcibly displaced from Artsakh told in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” documentary project

Alisa remembers that she did not believe that there would be another war, but half an hour after her mother told her, the fighting started. After going down to the basement, Alisa decided to film that moment because she thought that these were the last minutes of her life.

In her prayers, she asked God that his brother would be injured, and be brought to the hospital, because he was in the hottest spot of the war. In the morning on the third day of the war, they only found out that the brother had returned from the positions and went to the aunt’s house.

On the last day, the 25 September, she and her friends went to “Dedo-Babo” (the monument to Artsak Grandpa and Granny), took land in front of it, took the flag there and later took it out of Artsakh.

Alisa’s family didn’t take anything from their house in Artsakh and the Azerbaijanis saw it and asked why the car was empty, the father answered, “What should I take?” The Azerbaijani said: don’t come back, goodby.
