Vladimir Vardanyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on State-Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, said at the discussion of the introduction of the measures of reforms of the justice sector and the new system of evaluation of judges, that they attach great importance to the issue of increasing the quality of justice. “The implementation of the judge’s evaluation system can play an extremely important role in improving the quality of justice in the Republic of Armenia, taking into account the fact that in many cases, criticism regarding the judiciary did not issue from corruption risks, but rather from the level of professional activity of judges. It is extremely important to have professional judges, whose activities will be properly evaluated.”
Vardanyan added that a professional judge is the best guarantee of becoming an independent judge. “I would not like this speech to turn into mere words; we should also talk about the real problems and the issues that are regularly raised in the National Assembly and in other state bodies, as well as among our citizens. The judiciary is always in need of reforms, because the society is developing, and reforms are needed along with that development. The main complaints come from the judiciary in the sense that the examination of cases is too long, it is due to the workload of the judges, and the objective workload.”
