To go and to live with their Passport, and to trade with their Manat? Forced Migration through the Eyes of an Eyewitness

Seryozha Emiryan, who was forcibly displaced from the occupied Republic of Artsakh told in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” documentary project of Iravaban.net told that the nine months of Artsakh siege were extremely difficult.

“My grandchildren were hungry, there was no candy. What can I say, it was too bad. We lived well before the blockade. My son was working, my daughter-in-law was a teacher,” he said

Mr. Seryozha remembers how the enemy unleashed the aggression of September 19.

“I went to the forest on that day. When I returned they were already shooting> First I thought it was thunder. Then I realized that this is not thunder, this is a fight. My grandchildren were at school. I somehow managed to get there and brought the children home. My son called, said to take the children’s documents, and added that he would soon come. At that time, the enemy waslready hitting the tower, there was no connection. The head of the village came, gathered the children and took them away, I said: I will not come until my son comes from the positions. My son came, we came to Stepanakert. It was really difficult to reach Goris from there, we reached somehow,” our interlocutor said.

He noted that they could not take anything with them. “We left everything; we left the car as well. We were on the way for two days.”

Speaking about the “reintegration” proposed by Azerbaijan, he said that he would not return to Artsakh under any circumstances.

“It would never happen. I will return if Artsakh is in the same status as before. To go and to live with their Passport, and to trade with their Manat? No! Never!” he said.
