Varuzhan Stepanyan, forcibly displaced from the occupied Republic of Artsakh, told in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” series of Iravaban.net that he was displaced from Shahmasur village of Martakert region.
He went to do field work on 19 September.
“Shell shooting started, it was hard to believe, but a real fight was going on. 10 people were killed by the shell. I returned to the village. They said that the people should be evacuated. The head of the village had brought gasoline so that we could go out by car. We were to Ivanyan. We stayed at the Stepanakert airport for several days,” our interlocutor said.
He mentioned that he came to Armenia by buses provided by the Armenian side. “We stayed in Stepanakert for several days, there was no food, no bread, and no cigarettes.”
Varuzhan Stepanyan has applied to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and asked to help them to find an apartment.
Currently he is the Culture House of Parakar Community of Armavir Мarz.
