After receiving information about the kidnapping by Azerbaijan from an illegal checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor of a 22-year-old student, who was being transported to Armenia accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, the staff of the RA Human Rights Defender started investigating the case; the Human Rights Defender immediately contacted the colleagues of the competent authorities.
Issues related to other similar incidents at the checkpoint were also discussed.
The results will be summarized as a matter of urgency and letters will be sent to international authoritative organizations with a mandate to protect human rights.
The abduction by Azerbaijan of persons being transferred to Armenia through the mediation of international actors, including Russian peacekeepers, is reprehensible and inadmissible.
The Human Rights Defender of RA emphasizes once again that in this case we are dealing with the grossest violations of human rights by the Azerbaijani authorities, bearing in mind that international legal guarantees and standards universally recognized in the modern civilized world regarding interference with fundamental human rights are not observed.
