Former Pope Benedict XVI died at the age of 96, according to the press service of the Holy See.

Earlier, Pope Francis informed that Benedict XVI has serious health problems.

In February 2013, Benedict XVI announced that he was resigning due to health reasons “for the good of the church”. He is the first Pope since 1415, who voluntarily left the throne.
