French President Emmanuel Macron asked Pope Francis to call Russian President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch Kirill in order to bring the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis closer, Le Point magazine wrote.

As the newspaper notes, on Monday, “During the 55-minute reception, Macron asked the Pontiff to call President Putin, Patriarch Kirill, as well as US President Joe Biden.” According to the magazine, Macron urged Francis to “promote the establishment of peace in Ukraine.”

According to Macron, Francis can call on Biden to find a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict, as well as settle the crisis in Haiti, Le Point notes.

Notably, Pope Francis received Macron on Monday, 24 October. This is the third meeting of the Head of France with the Pontiff. They exchanged gifts. In particular, the Head of the Roman Catholic Church presented Macron with papal documents and a bronze medal with the image of St. Peter. It is noted that the French President presented the Pontiff with a rare edition of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant’s work “Toward Perpetual Peace”.

Macron also met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, according to a Holy See press release issued on Monday.

Earlier in Rome, the French President met with the new Prime Minister of Italy, Georgia Meloni.
