The case of mass alcohol poisoning in 2020 is still being investigated by the Investigative Committee.

It should be reminded that the Ministry of Health had announced that in 2020 Between 31 August and 1 September, an alarm was received that 10 people had been admitted to Armavir Medical Center on suspicion of poisoning with a diagnosis of “alcohol intoxication”. Later, on 9 September, the Investigative Committee reported that the preliminary investigation of the criminal case revealed that 27 people had suffered as a result of alcohol poisoning, 10 of whom died. The 27 persons mentioned in the criminal case were recognized as victims, 2 persons became blind.

In response to a written inquiry from  Iravaban.net , the Investigative Committee provided details about the criminal case.

None of the 3 accused in the case is detained at the moment. One is Ashot Hovsepyan, from whom the alcohol was bought, the names of the other 2 is not revealed due to the interests of the investigation.

It is mentioned that the legal successors of the victim (relatives of 10 dead) did not file a complaint against any of the 3 accused. However, the Investigative Committee emphasizes that the criminal acts committed in the criminal case are cases of public prosecution, and the presence or absence of a complaint by the victims or the legal successors of the victim may not in any way affect the decision-making process.

To the question why the criminal case has not been sent to court yet, the Investigative Committee answered, “In the criminal case, a forensic complex forensic examination was appointed, confiscated alcohol-like liquids in 29 packages were found, during the search and examination of the scene. The conclusion of the mentioned complex expertise has not been received yet, without which it is impossible to solve the criminal case.”

Ashot Hovsepyan remained detained until 17 December, 2020.
