Ukraine’s nuclear facilities were subjected to rocket fire: IAEA

Ukraine has notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of a missile attack on a radioactive waste disposal facility in Kiev. This was announced on Sunday by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Rambler reports.

” Ukraine informed the IAEA today that rockets hit a radioactive waste disposal facility in Kyiv overnight, but there were no reports of damage to the building or any sign of a radioactive release,” Grossi said in a statement.

The IAEA Director General noted the need to ensure the safety of such facilities, as radioactive waste stored there could have a serious radiological impact.

The IAEA already reported on Thursday that an electrical transformer at a waste disposal site near Kharkiv was damaged, but no release of radioactive material was reported. The IAEA has also been informed that the Russian military has taken control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
