The CoE Report states that Turkey threatens Regional Peace

The European Parliament (EC) plenary session in Strasbourg discussed two separate reports on the European Union (EU) common foreign, security and defense policy. It also referred to Turkey.

Ermenihaber.am reported.

A report by Nathalie Loiseau , a member of the European Parliament elected from France, stressed that Turkey often plays a destabilizing role in many areas of concern to its neighbors, threatening regional peace, security and stability.

The new illegal actions announced by Turkey against the EU member states, such as the illegal actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, the threats of military conflict in the Sea under the jurisdiction of Greece and Cyprus, have been described as very worrying.

Another report on the EU’s common foreign and security policy, presented by German parliamentarian David McAllister, stressed that the prospect of Turkey’s EU membership is “unrealistic” in the current context.

Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, speaking at the plenary session, said that they see a de-escalation of tensions with Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean. He noted, however, that Ankara’s actions in the Marash region of Cyprus continue to be a “source of concern”.

The reports were put to a vote on 16 February. The voting results will be announced on 17 February.
