The independence of the judiciary is more endangered than ever. Taguhi Tovmasyan

Taguhi Tovmasyan, MP of the “I have Honor” Faction of the National Assembly, wrote on her Facebook page.

“Today, the independence of the judiciary of the Republic of Armenia is more endangered than ever, as a result of which the impartiality of the system is questioned.

In particular, detention today is perceived not as a precautionary measure, but as a type of punishment, as a result of imposing punitive elements on detention, we have political persecution, political revenge. In addition, since July 2021, the NSS has confiscated the access and management keys of the software for the assignment server of the Judicial System, as a result of which court cases are signed not by a computer program that suppressed corruption risks, and other subjective elements, but “manually”, where circumvention is very accessible, not only by the presidents of the courts, but also by the chiefs of staff, which is a gross violation of the law – a violation of the right to a fair trial.

In order to raise these important issues, to study them in detail, to find solutions, I convened a working discussion in the National Assembly today, to which representatives of the professional community as well as acting judges, who feel on their skin how Judicial independence, which was possible to imagine in the conditions of the Armenian reality, is being trampled on day by day, were invited.”
