Speaking with Iravaban.net, lawyer Gevorg Gyozalyan said that he did not see any problem in vetting of the advocates.
It should be noted that the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Jhangiryan, in his speech a few days ago, expressed an opinion on the vetting of lawyers, saying, “I can say that the process of cleaning and purification should also refer to the advocates’ service, because, unfortunately, it is accepted in our country, for the most part, I do not want to offend anyone, but there are advocates who communicate with law enforcement agencies and courts in various cases very easily get recognition. In other words, this vetting must include the entire judicial system and all the bodies that serve and support it.”
“If the lawyers have nothing to be afraid of, let them undergo vetting, let them start with me, I absolutely do not see any problem. It is in line with these times, when the criminal is caught, he says, I am subjected to political persecution. It turns out that when doing some to advocates it threatens their independence. We have many advocates or some advocates who have accumulated enormous wealth through some shady arrangements,” the advocate said, adding that it will not harm the independence of advocates at all.
According to the advocate, he has been fighting against it for years. “When we woke up at night reading volumes, some advocates, without any professionalism, won lawsuits in very dubious conditions. And yes, let it be investigated, let it be found out, if there is such a thing, let it be revealed. The shadow connection with the judge will be revealed, it will be revealed specifically, if the advocate has accumulated an enormous wealth, and he cannot reasonably explain how he acquired that wealth, let it be revealed as well. On what bases are advocates better than judges?”
Gevorg Gyozalyan does not link this decision with the recent elections of the President of the Chamber of Advocates.
“The Director of the School of Advocates becomes the President of the Chamber of Advocates, and the President of the Chamber becomes the Director of the School. In other words, we leave our problems and think that the authorities have targeted the Chamber of Advocates. I feel completely alienated from that chamber. There is a well-known political couple where one becomes president, and the pther becomes prime minister, and so on. Now the same situation is in the Chamber of Advocates, let the chamber think about this first,” he said.
The advocate is in favor of having several units of the Chamber of Advocates, he is waiting and hopes that it will be after the elections.
