The Boxing Federation of Armenia reports:

“Hovhannes Bachkov is awarded a victory, the Armenian Boxing Federation has restored justice.

In the fight with Somchay Wongsuwan representing Thailand at the World Boxing Championship, the referees unfairly awarded the victory to the boxer representing Thailand, while our athlete had a good fight, had a noticeable advantage over the opponent; in fact, they should have raised Bachkov’s hand as a sign of victory. Immediately after the fight, the Armenian Boxing Federation, led by Hovhannes Hovsepyan, appealed against the unjust decision of the referees and sought to restore justice.

Finally, after the discussions of the refereeing committee, justice was restored and the victory of the Bachkov- Wongsuwan fight in the final was awarded to the Armenian athlete.

Thus, for the first time in history, the unjust decision made against the Armenian athlete at the World Championship is changing, the victory is returned to us.”

Armenia will have two representatives in the semifinals of the World Cup. This means that two bronze medals are secured. This is also an exceptional event in the history of Armenian boxing.”
