The trial of the case of the 2nd President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and the former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan continues today in the Court of General Jurisdiction of the city of Yerevan.

Gevorgyan’s lawyer Alexander Kochubayev submitted a motion to challenge the presiding judge Anna Danibekyan.

The Defender mentioned that in another criminal case he and Judge Danibekyan are on different sides of the case. Kochubayev is a witness on the defense side, and Danibekyan is a victim.

It should be reminded that in 2020 the lawyer defended the interests of citizen Narek Mantashyan, who was accused of revealing personal information about Judge Danibekyan, but was later called to court as a witness. According to Kochubaev, Judge Danibekyan has an obvious prejudice against him and cannot be objective. “As far as I know, today is your birthday. Make a present to yourself, accept the challenge petition.”

Hovhannes Khudoyan, the lawyer defending the interests of former President Robert Kocharyan, stated at today’s court session that the judge has been showing a subjective attitude towards Gevorgyan and his lawyers lately. According to him, the participants of the trial had seen the judge’s decisions and actions, which obviously limited Gevorgyan’s rights.

Kocharyan’s defenders joined the submitted motion.

The accusing party was against the mediation. Prosecutor Gevorg Baghdasaryan stated that the lawyers were against the judge because Danibekyan did not fulfill their demands and did not adapt to their conditions.

It should be reminded that the second President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan was accused of bribery in this case, and the former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan was charged with money laundering.

After hearing the positions of the parties, Judge Anna Danibekyan announced a break, went to the deliberation room to examine the motion for a challenge, and make a decision. The decision will be published today at 16:00.
