Tigran Ambardanyan the brother of Mels Ambardanyan, who was taken prisoner in Azerbaijan, stops the sit-in strike.
He wrote about this on his Facebook page:
“Dear compatriots.
At this moment I am stopping the sit-in strike for the following reason.
Today, we were invited to the government, we met with the representatives of the government. They listened to us and discussed the conditions we offered.
They are:
- To establish an ad hoc commission, which should have constant direct contact with the relatives of the captives (promised to form tomorrow, 25 June, 2021)
- As a result of our discussion, we agreed to provide additional time for the Government to continue its efforts and to inform about the work done in the near future.
“If all the conditions discussed and the demands are not met by mid-July, I will resume the sit-in strike and will raise wider protests together with my friends.”
As we reported earlier, Tigran Ambardanyan the brother of Mels Ambardanyan, who was taken prisoner in Azerbaijan, issued a statement late in the evening of 23 June that together with the parents of the other boys taken prisoner, demand the current Armenian authorities to make a claim against Azerbaijan, to “immediately stop the false trial against our brothers and return them to Armenia without preconditions.”
He had mentioned that they were starting an indefinite sit-in strike.
In a conversation with Iravaban.net Tigran Ambardanyan mentioned that through the mediation of the Red Cross they are able to contact their relatives every two months.
“The last time we received a video message 20 days ago was through the Red Cross,” he said.
In response to the question that the government regularly meets with the relatives of the captives, and whether the government’s assurances regarding the work of organizing the return of the captives is not enough, Ambardanyan said. “These are closed meetings, I cannot say details, at least for the parent there are no satisfactory circumstances, until the child comes home.”
