Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organized worldwide on 18 May, by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

The day is aimed to raise awareness on the importance of the museums in the development of the social and cultural life of the society. It is also intended to develop favorable environment for publicizing the museum objects.

Last year, the International Museum Day museums were celebrated 32000 museums of 129 countries. The theme of the 2013 International Museum Day is  “Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change.” In this context Armenia shall step forward with a motto “Museums as non-formal Education.”
