The risks of aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border still remain: Zas

The risks of aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border still remain. The CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas stated, speaking at the OSCE Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE).

According to him, as a result of the adoption of a trilateral statement by the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the Russian Federation in the Caucasus region, positive progress has been made in the settlement of the situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone. “The deployment of a Russian peacekeeping force and the efforts of international negotiators to resume a comprehensive settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh form the basis for a lasting peace. The situation in the “field” is gradually stabilizing. The main thing is that they do not shoot anymore.”

He noted that the CSTO is closely monitoring the development of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, especially in the border areas of Armenia’s Syunik region. “We welcome the intention of the parties to resolve the issue of the state border peacefully. We see the prospect of a lasting peace there. At the same time, the risks of aggravation of the situation still remain,” he said.
