European Parliament calls on Turkey to refrain from anti-Armenian propaganda and hate speech

Following the recent vote, the European Parliament approved a resolution on Turkey, reaffirming its call for recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Turkey is also urged to refrain from anti-Armenian propaganda and hate speech and to fully respect its commitments to protect Armenian culture. The RA Embassy in Belgium reported.

The report also makes several references to Turkey’s negative role in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

– Condemns the fact that instead of calling for an end to hostilities and the resumption of peace talks under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, Turkey has decided to unconditionally support Azerbaijan’s hostilities, to continue them, thus resorting to provocative rhetoric, not escalating tensions.

– The transfer of foreign fighters from Syria to Nagorno Karabakh from other places is condemned, as confirmed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

– Turkey is once again urged to refrain from any action or rhetoric that could escalate tensions in the South Caucasus, promote international dialogue, or the peace process within the OSCE Minsk Group.

– The transfer of militants, mercenaries from jihadist groups in northern Syria to Libya and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is strongly condemned.

Besides,

– The Turkish government is urged to uphold comprehensive legislation prohibiting discrimination on the rights of ethnic and religious minorities living in Turkey, including citizens of Armenian descent.

– The EU և calls on the EU member states to study the possibility of including the extremist movement “Gray Wolves” terrorist organizations in the EU list և to ban the activities of its branch structures in EU countries;

– to closely monitor their activities, to counteract their possible impact, which is a particular threat to citizens of Armenian, Kurdish and Greek descent, to any dissident by the organization.
