As a Result of a Wrong Approach, Biodiversity Species have been degraded, even destroyed: Romanos Petrosyan

RA Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan posted a video on his Facebook page and made a note, which says:

“The Red Book of Armenia was last updated in 2010. The previous version was published 20 years ago, in 1990.

For 20 years, the use of biodiversity in the country has largely taken place without taking into account the natural opportunities for ensuring the reproduction of living resources.

As a result of such an approach to the use, species have gradually degraded, or even become extinct, leading to a general impoverishment of biodiversity.

The rich biodiversity of our country is an invaluable value, for the preservation of which both the state and international partners do not spare resources, as the territory of Armenia is a key link in the restoration of Europe’s biodiversity.

Armenia is in the top twenty of the world’s 200 biodiversity hotspots. There are 107 species on 1 sq. km in our country.

Our country represents almost half of the entire flora of the Caucasus, and dozens of animal species are considered endemic to Armenia.

Dear compatriots, in any case do not damage the biodiversity of the environment and thus do not disturb the harmonious and undisturbed coexistence and development of the natural environment next to us.

Preserve nature, live in harmony with nature.”
