Clarification on the News of Artur Davtyan’s Motion to detain Arsen Torosyan

Adviser to the Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan Gor Abrahamyan spread an explanation, which says:

“Last night, Lurer.com news website published an article where, without citing any source, it stated that  on the basis of the alleged violations revealed by the Corruption Prevention Commission, the RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan petitioned to detain Arsen Torosyan. And he personally discussed it with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, but the latter did not “give permission” to arrest Torosyan.”

The mentioned does not correspond to the reality at all. There is no such issue, the RA Prosecutor General did not have such a discussion with the RA Prime Minister, and he could not have such.

First of all, because the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, in general, the Prosecutor’s Office is not guided by any “approvals” to initiate criminal prosecution, but by the case of the factual data obtained in criminal cases, the sufficiency of evidence.

And secondly, there is no criminal case under investigation in connection with the data mentioned in the publication, and a precautionary measure can be applied to a person only within the framework of a criminal case.”
