Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan reports.
“I also discussed with the head of the Armenian delegation to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Claire Meytraud today:
– The issue related to the disappearance of Narek Sardaryan, a resident of Nerkin Khndzoresk village, Syunik region, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia.
– The question of Karen Ghazaryan, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, a resident of Berdavan village, Tavush region, imprisoned in Azerbaijan.
The staff of the Human Rights Defender is in touch with Narek Sardaryan’s family members. They informed us that on 8 July, after 10:00 am, Narek went to the pasture near the village of Gorayk in the Syunik region and did not return. Family members suspect that the young man accidentally crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
The head of the Armenian delegation to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) informed me today that the Red Cross in the case of Narek Sardaryan had launched a formal process to find out the whereabouts of an Armenian citizen and had asked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) office in Azerbaijan.
The ombudsman’s staff will provide details about Karen Ghazaryan to Karen’s parents.
“Given the mandate of the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as the agreement with the head of the Armenian delegation, I cannot provide details at this time, but we will continue to keep in touch with the Armenian delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross.”
