Today, the Human Rights Defender’s Office carried out the work in an emergency mode.
The Syunik regional branch of the Defender’s Office has been operating in Kapan since early morning, as well as the central body in Yerevan, directly following the events. During the day, communication was maintained with both the Police and the Investigative Body, as well as lawyers.
All proceedings in the police and investigative bodies will be under the attention of the Human Rights Defender.
The rally in Kapan is also under the observation of the Human Rights Defender’s Office. The Office also reported that police forces had been transferred to Kapan.
The Human Rights Defender specifically states that all proceedings must be conducted and resolved exclusively through legal means. Each issue must be resolved in a way that does not allow tensions to escalate, and the protection of citizens’ rights is under special protection of the Defender.
