Prisoners’ Relatives are urged to refrain from Visiting Penitentiaries: Penitentiary Service

The Ministry of Justice informs that in the penitentiary institutions the anti-epidemic situation is completely monitored: no cases of COVID-19 coronavirus have been recorded and there are no patients with clinical symptoms characteristic of the disease.

The Penitentiary Service reports.

In order to prevent coronavirus disease penetration into the Penitentiary institutions, the Ministry of Justice, the Penitentiary Service and the “Prison Medical Center” SNCO have taken and will continue to take preventive and protective measures to protect the life and health of detainees.

In particular, persons deprived of liberty are regularly undergoing necessary medical examinations, including thermometry and external screening, convicts and health-care detainees are urgently screened and examined. The latter, as well as the servicemen and staff of penitentiaries, are also regularly informed about the symptoms of the new virus, as well as the sanitary and hygienic measures necessary to avoid becoming infected.

In addition, relevant explanatory work was carried out and on the basis of which strict supervision over the visits of prisoners and relatives of detainees was established.

The Penitentiary Service assures that there are no grounds for panic at the penitentiary institutions, and at the same time, we urge the relatives of persons deprived of their liberty to visit penitentiary institutions, the need of which is essential for the life and health of detainees and convicts themselves.
