The Number of Complaints addressed to the Ombudsman on Cases of Domestic Violence has increased Twice

The Ombudsman has reported about 100 domestic violence cases in 2019, almost twice as many as compared with 50 complaints last year.

Public Relations Department of the Human Rights Defender’s Office reported this.

Most of the complaints addressed to the Human Rights Defender in 2018, as well as in 2019, concerned the abuse of a husband by a woman.

Protecting women’s rights, preventing and combating violence against women is one of the key areas of the Ombudsman’s work.

The increase in the number of complaints is also attributed to the Ombudsman’s awareness campaign last year that the legal possibilities of protecting a domestic violence were filmed and presented to the public with the call for #Iamagainstviolence; enable the citizens to activate the photo and view the video message through the Arloopa app.

Guidelines on how to apply to the Human Rights Defender in the case of domestic violence have been prepared in Armenian, English, Russian and French, with a braille script, as well as a separate Handbook on Capacity Building for the staff of Ombudsman’s Office, the methodology which is used in conversations with the victims of domestic violence.

Guidelines for citizens have been disseminated in the regions.

Consultation and guidance was provided in case of the most of the applications addressed to the Human Rights Defender.
