Hasmik Khachunts, a member of the Yerevan Council of Elders, posted a post on her Facebook page about the performance of “Huzanq uZanq” near the Republic Square metro station, which received controversial opinions and speak to the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan.
“Mr. Araik Harutyunyan, contemporary art in Armenia is again silenced by a group of marginalized citizens and media.
During the rehearsals of a contemporary dance performance by Contemporary Choreography Lab Armenia, sponsored by the MESCS, a group of people attacked and physically assaulted one of the event participants with false accusations and curses.
The performance will take place tomorrow, 2 November, at 5 pm.

“Huzanq uZanq”is a performance art project that combines contemporary dance and rhythm with poetry. The Performance is a research / experimental re-reading of the futurism poetry of the 1920s (Kara Darvish, Gevorg Abov, Azat Vshtuni, Yeghishe Charents), with interventions by Lilit Petrosyan’s authorial poetry and futuristic move of Hasmik Tangyan. Futurism poetry is the voice of the future in the past that comes to proclaim the presence of the artist, placing the body of a woman artist Hasmik Tangyan in a public space in an experimental dance art.
The project aims to question and propose new forms of body presence in the public space, which have long been suggested by the above-mentioned poets in the past. The performances of Lilit Petrosyan’s author’s poetry are the voice of the woman currently speaking, and the frequency of her voice varies from male authors to her own voice, questioning the distinct divisions of male and female speech patterns. Hasmik Tangyan questions the often encountered stereotypes about the female body and presents an internal pressure that condition our public behavior and self-esteem.
