Delegation headed by the President of the RA Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan, Member of the Bureau of the Venice Commission participated in the opening ceremony of the 2016 judicial year in Strasbourg. The Armenian delegation arrived on the invitation of the President of Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights
On January 26, he held a working meeting with the President of European Court of Human Rights Gaido Raymond. Members of the RA delegation G. Kostanyan, RA Prosecutor General, RA Government Representative before the ECHR; A. Harutyuyan, judge to the ECHR from Armenia, member of the RA Constitutional Court; A. Gulumyan ECHR Former Judge and others attended the meeting as well. Issues on further partnership between the RA and ECHR were discussed at the meeting.
Congratulating Mr. Raymond on being elected as ECHR President and wishing successful commitment of duties Mr. G. Harutyunyan invited him to Armenia on an official visit, and to take part in the International Annual Conference on the Issues of Constitutional Justice on 21-22 October.
On January 22 G. Harutyunyan met with J. Buqiqio, the President of Venice Committee.

On January 29, G. Harutyunyan met T. Yagland General Secretary of the European Council. A.Papikyan, the RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the Council of Europe; G. Kostanyan, the RA Prosecutor General, the RA Government Representative before the ECHR; and other EU officials attended the meeting as well.
The parties discussed possibilities on future cooperation with different structures of EC on the issues of consolidation of the rule of law
In the scope of the official opening ceremony of the judicial year, Mr. G. Harutyunyan had tête-à-tête meetings with Mr. A. Shayo ECHR Vice President; Mrs. A. Nyusberg ECHR Department President; ECHR Judges Mr. E. Kuris and Mr. P. Pinto de Albuqerq. RA delegation participated in seminar dedicated to the opening of judicial year; organized by the International and National courts in the fight against human rights violations on teams: “Genocide: Crimes against Humanity: ‘Military crimes”.
