On 5 June, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative districts made a decision to detain Ara Budaghyan, who is accused for assassination attempt against the governor of Syunik marz Surik Khachatryan and his companion.
In the interview with Iravaban.net correspondent, Ara Budaghyan’s defender Hayk Alumyan said that Budaghyan’s detention was completely baseless. According to the defender, the weapon found at Budaghyans’ is a legal weapon and does not have anything to do with the attempt. As long as Ara Budaghyan was detained and accused with the absence of juridical basis, so H. Alumyan is going to appeal against the court decision.
The defender is now studying the possibilities to publish the materials making them available for the society, so that people may see that the detention was baseless. According to the defender Ara Budaghyan’s right for defense was hindered for a whole day: the defender did not have chance to see the client provide juridical service.
Recently, RA NSS has made an announcement, that 4 inhabitants of Kapan and Goris cities in Syunik marz, including Ara Budaghyan were detained. They are accused with suspicion of preparing and taking part in assassination attempt with a weapon use against the governor of Syunik marz Surik Khachatryan and his companions on 20 May at 18.15.
