Advocate Georgi Melikyan wrote an open letter to the RA President Serzh Sargsyan addressing the Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan’s statements in the NA. The letter reads:
“I listened with great interest the report submitted to Parliament by the RA Prosecutor General of the RA G. Kostanyan, where he assured that he was able to completely eliminate corruption in the prosecution system, announcing “I declare with all responsibility, that there was no case and cannot be any case where any prosecutor will make an attempt to exceed the powers vested to him by the law, exercise corrupt behavior and remain unpunished, and continue his service in the system. I repeat, I am announcing this with full responsibility.”
Given the fact that the Prosecutor General made such a statement at the session of the National Assembly, I as a lawyer and defender of the rights of G.Gevorgyan, defendant in the criminal case # 12146513, announce with all responsibility that the Prosecutor General’s statement is irresponsible and inconsistent to reality and with his statement he misled the deputies of the NA, because the prosecution system, which he leads continues to violate human rights, freedoms and legal interests and conduct the investigation of a number of criminal cases that are under their procedural management…
