On 16-17 May, a round table discussion on “Principles of Providing Information on Criminal Cases” was held in Tsakhkadzor. Representatives of the RA Investigative Committee, Investigators, media representative, advocates and NGO representatives attended the round table.
Mr. Artur Ghambaryan, Deputy Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee, Doctor of Law, Professor spoke about the freedom of information, and the issues of secrecy of preliminary investigation, as well as the principles of protection of the private life. Mr. Armen Grigoryan, Deputy Human Rights Defender of the RA spoke about the realization of the freedom of information of the citizens and the legal regulations of the preliminary investigation secrecy.
The speakers tried to clarify the notion of preliminary investigation secrecy and in which cases the investigators speculate this qualification to refuse providing information.
Mr. Aghvan Hovsepyan, Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee attended the discussion as well. He answered the questions of the journalists and referred to the case of the incident with Zhirayr Sefilyan and others as well as to the case of the murder of Avetisyan Family Members in Gyumri, and developments that took place in Syunik marz and the investigatory activities conducted in that direction.
Speaking about Avetisyan family, Mr. Aghvan Hovsepyan that the RA and RF law authorities were doing everything\g to reveal the case. “Not a single fact is missed. I am sure that we shall inform the public as soon as the case is disclosed,” he mentioned.
Shushan Doydoyan, President of “Freedom of Information Center” NGO, Advocate Yerem Sargsyan and journalist Ruzanna Minasyan spoke at the meeting as well.
