Celebration of Europe Day in Lori and Shirak Marzes

On 17 May, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea and other representatives of the delegation as well as the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania, the UK, Czech, and Poland visited Gyumri in the framework of the celebration of Europe Day.

Presentation of the European Union funded projects was organized in the hall of Gyumri Municipality. The organist ions presented their projects and the achieved results.

Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea welcomed the participants and noted the directions and success of Armenia – EU cooperation.  According to the ambassador, the general amount which the EU will provide to Armenia in the framework of the agreement signed in November, last year will total to 140 – 160 million Euros.  “The programs that we initiated, of course, will be continued and implemented as they have been developed based on the overall reforms philosophy,” Mr. Hristea said. The EU-funded projects in Armenia are various and are directed to the protection of human rights and fight against corruption, poverty reduction, formation and development of the civil society and others. These programs cover the education and energy efficiency spheres as well.

Further Mr. Samvel Balasanyan, Mayor of Gyumri City and the Ambassadors of the European Countries who attended the event spoke.

Then, the participants approached the NGO booths, where all EU funded projects were represented. The Ambassador approached the booth of the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, where he mentioned the projects that are being implemented in the legal sphere and noted the success achieved within the framework of the project.

It is due to note that a similar event was organized on 16 May in Vanadzor City, where AYLA presented its activities as well.
