“It has a Purely Formal Character”: Opinions about the Anti-Corruption Council.

Member of the Republican Unity of Employers of Armenia Ani Makaryan thinks that the anti-corruption council cannot function fully: “The functions are not clear. Establishment of the anti-corruption council was aimed to cheat everyone.  I don’t think it will function for a very long time”-emphasized the expert.

She also thinks that such councils are established to show the international institutions that work is implemented. “I can draw parallels. I am an expert of trafficking and forced labor issues and we are among the countries that are actively fighting against this blemish. However, frankly speaking, there is no active fight. It is done for representing some indicators to the international institutions. It has a purely formal character,” said the expert.

President of the “Legal Generation” NGO Hayrenuhi Gevorgyan says that after participating in the anti-corruption fight for 20 years she has been convinced that “There is no state thinking or state governance. The fight against corruption may start from the above.” She thinks that the level of corruption is especially high in the sphere of education: “Corruption in the sphere of education starts from the kindergartens and schools and ends in the highest circles”: said the president of the NGO.
