On 1 April, the decision was made on the case of the former head of State Social Security Service Vazgen Khachikyan and others in the Court of Appeal by presiding of Judge Gagik Avetisyan.
The Court decided to decline the protests presented by their lawyers and to partially satisfy the complaints of the prosecution.
The verdict made by the Court of First Instance on Vazgen Khachikyan’s case remained the same. And the criminal verdict of the Court of First Instance on the case of 8 accused people that referred to Article 70 of the RA Criminal Code was annulled by the Court because it was considered not applicable.
According to Article 70 of the RA Criminal Code the Court defines a probation period from 1 to 5 years in case of not applying the verdict conditionally.
Hrant Ananyan, the lawyer of one of the accused Vigen Sargsyan, informed that they did not have the argumentation part yet, and he could not say why the Court made such a decision. The other lawyers are waiting to receiving the decisions of the Court before making the next steps.
We would like to remind that Vazgen Khachikyan was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Court of the First Instance (find the details of the criminal case here).
