In September 2014, the “ADVOCATES” closed group of Facebook social network conducted a discussion on establishing the lawyer’s day. As it is mentioned in the decision on the discussion of establishing the “Lawyer’s day”, the members of the closed group discussed the possibility of the following days: 23 September, 28 October, 10 December, 14 December, and 11 June. According to the decision the choice of 23 September was based on the fact that the advocacy in Armenia dates back to 23 September 1923, when the USSR Code on Organization of the courts provided formation of the board of the defenders on criminal and civil cases. In this regard, the opinion of the opposing attorneys is noteworthy, according to which the lawyer should not be linked with the Soviet Union in any event.
The group did not reach a single or majority opinion on the mentioned day, thus the Board of the Chamber decided to take into account the peculiarities of international cooperation.
Therefore, the Board found that the day should be marked on 25 April, issuing from the fact that the international partners will have the opportunity to participate in the nationwide event on 24 April.
