Ombudsman observed Violation of Human Rights in the actions of Prosecutor General’s Office

Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan observed violation of human rights in the actions of Prosecutor General’s Office; the official website of the Human Rights defender of the RA informs.

The advocate who applied to the Ombudsman informed that the prosecutor used foul language against his client’s mother in the framework of investigation of the case.

Referring to the incident the Prosecutor’s Office reported that although “The Code of Ethics for Prosecutor’s” provides that the prosecutor should be decent, moderate and balanced, but in this case the prosecutor’s action was manifested by mental confusion of provocation and therefore cannot be regarded as an essential breach.”

After studying the case of the Ombudsman decided that the actions of the prosecutor’s office violated the citizens’ rights: human dignity is the highest value, and the prosecutor’s primary responsibility is performance to the requirements of Constitution, laws and other legal acts.

The Ombudsman proposed to undertake effective measures to prevent similar incidents and apply disciplinary responsibility against the offending officer.
