Today, relatives of the former employee of HSBC Bank Asot Arushanyan, gathered in front of the Presidential residence.
Ashot Arushanyan and Edgar Karakeshishyan were found guilty for the robbery of 56million 400 thousand drams from the car of the Deputy Director of “Manana Grain” LTD Armen Manukyan. The First Instance Court of general Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork Marash Administrative Districts sentenced Ashot Arushanyan to the term of 5 years and 6 months. The defense filed an appeal, but with no result (details are available here).
Last year when the decision of the Court of Appeals was not known yet Arushanyan’s relatives had gone on a hunger strike in front of the Presidential residence. This time according to Ashot Arushanyan’s Father Lavrenty Arushanyan 10 members of their family will go on a hunger strike in front of the Presidential residence. Their demand is to impose a sentence of acquittal for Ashot Arushanyan.
Ashot Arushanyan’s defender Liparit Simonyan had applied to the Court of Cassation with hope that the court will admit the case into proceeding and will take a lawful decision, as well as will evaluate the sentence which was based on the hypothesis of the judgment of the first instance court; or the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which the latter made in excess of its rights. “Eventually by this day we have 4 legal acts which contradict each other.” Mr. Simonyan said.
