On December 19, Smvel Farmanyan, Head of the NA Committee on Armenia EU Parliamentary Cooperation, met with the delegation of the European Parliamentary Assembly led by Mr Richard Charnetsky, Vice-President of the European Parliament. Mmebers of the Committee Margarit Yesayan, Edmon Marukyan, Stepan Margaryan, Levon Dokholyan and Tachat Vardanyan attended the meeting as well, the Information service of the RA NA informs.
The Head of the Committee Samvel Farmanyan noted that Europe has been and currently is friend of the Armenian people, and that the people of Armenia are the carrier of the European values and its civil values. According to the MP, cooperation with the EU is very important for Armenia, as Europe is a key partner not only in economic, but also in political terms. He said that Armenia remains committed to the initiative of working with the EU and to expand cooperation in all directions. In addition, Armenia is confident that soon they will find the legal framework format, which will be the base for formation of Armenia-EU relations in the future.
The Head of the Committee stated that the partners of European Parliament have comprehended Armenia’s choice with understanding which is a good prerequisite for the development and strengthening of bilateral relations, and at the same time, without prejudice to Armenia’s other international obligations.
Richard Charnetsky, Vice-President of the European Parliament thanked for the reception and said that he was in Armenia for the first time and was greatly impressed with our country. He stressed the importance to Armenia-EU cooperation and expressed confidence that the European Union will continue cooperation with Armenia in various fields. Meetings with political forces in Armenia were effective for Mr. Charnetsky as well.
