Today, on 18 December, representatives of 15 CSOs and Local Self Government Bodies working in the Republic of Armenia signed Cooperation Agreements with the Head of European Union in Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea.
The total budget of 15 projects is 10million EUROs which correspond to around 7 billion AMD. This money will be used to support civil society and local self governments. Duration of each organization is different; the most of them are for 24 months, the longest project duration is 48 months.
The Head of the EU Delegation in Armeniam Ambassador Traian Hristea was, highlighting the contribution of the EU in the RA and said that around 52% of the investments in Armenia provided by the EU. “The EU is the major supplier of Armenia, the EU actively supports the development of Armenia since its independence,” said the Ambassador.
“The EU remains committed to further work and strengthening bilateral relationships, we shall support the provisions that are of mutual interests,” Mr. Hristea said, and added that the EU attaches great importance to civil society organizations, “The EU attaches great importance to the protection of human rights, civil society, and poverty reduction activities. A few years later we shall talk about the success of this project,” emphasized the Ambassador.
He also noted that within the framework of the projects the EU promotes improvement of living standards in marzes, “The subject of four new projects refer to poverty reduction and sustainable development which are directed to sustainability of Shirak rural community, and development of Ijevan and other regions,” concluded the Ambassador.
