According to the Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan, the ministry plans to have the complete legislative package on probation service in 2016.
Probation is a service working with a person who committed crime and was sentenced. The service provides electronic control of the person in question as well. Thus, an electronic control from a general station will be realized over the person in electronic handcuffs and leg-irons. These systems are not ready yet, Suren Krmoyan informed. “Council of Europe supports us in this matter; we are negotiating with the EU about the formation of legislative base. The second problem that we try to solve is that we negotiate with the companies to get a vision on the cost of the devices and which of them are optimal for our country,” The deputy Minister said.
As for the pilot testing of this service, Mr. Krmoyan said that it is still under discussion. “We have no decision with this regard yet, but we are developing educational programs and electronic monitoring systems, obtaining the devices. We shall discuss this when everything things is ready. We hope that in 2015 we shall have pilot projects on Probation Service.”
