On 09 October RA National Aseembly President Galust Sahakyan received the delegation of the EU-Armenia Friendship Group headed by the Group President and European Parliament Deputy Eleni Theocharous.
Galust Sahakyan stated his appreciation towards Mrs Theocharous with regard to her humanitarian mission during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He also restated Armenia`s resolve on the peaceful resolution of the conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group. That`s the only accessible format for Armenia, but the conflict resolution does not seem realistic given Azerbaijan`s militaristic propaganda and provocative activities on the border.
Referring to the EU-RA cooperation Galust Sahakyan mentioned that EU had always been and continued being Armenia`s important partner. It has always been underlined that this cooperation is based primarily on shared value system, and the Republic of Armenia is resolved to continually deepen and enlarge the cooperation with the EU.
Mr Sahakyan also referred to the relationship between Armenia and Turkey, and stated that the regulation of this relationship is important not only for the entire region, but also the international community. It is known that Armenia always came up with constructive initiatives, as the Armenian-Turkish protocols signed in Zurich in 2009, the ratification of which was later on subverted by Turkish authorities.
With regard to the 100th anniversary of the Genocide Commemoration, Galust Sahakyan stated that Cyprus and the European Parliament were among the first ones to recognize Armenian Genocide and expressed his hope that the guests will take part in the events scheduled for 24 April 2015 in Yerevan.
Eleni Theochareous stated that they would be next to Armenian people on the days of Genocide Commemoration. She also underlined theimportance of condemning crimes against humanity in the world. She also mentioned that some events were being scheduled in the European Parliament in relation to the issues of Nagorno-Karabakh and Cyprus.
Eleni Theocharous was awarded with a medal of honor for her contribution to the strengthening of relationship with Armenia.
